Tim Beiko of the Ethereum Foundation projected this week that the Merge – Ethereum’s long-anticipated transition to a new design – might take place the week of September 19. The Merge will see Ethereum switch from the energy-intensive Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism to a more efficient Proof of Stake (PoS) system.

3.ECB debates carbon footprint of crypto protocols, compares PoW to fossil fuel and PoS to electric cars
The European Central Bank (ECB) recently published a report about the contribution of digital assets to the carbon footprint. ECB officials compared the PoW blockchain consensus mechanisms to fossil fuel cars. They further argued that the Proof of Stake is the only sustainable crypto option while referring to its as electric vehicles.
4.Andorra green lights Bitcoin and blockchain with Digital Assets Act
The General Council of Andorra recently approved the Digital Assets Act: a regulatory framework for digital currencies and blockchain technology. The act is split into two parts. The first regards the creation of digital money, or “programmable digital sovereign money,” which can be exchanged in a closed system. In effect, this would allow the Andorran state to create its own token.
5.Paraguayan Senate Passes Bill Regulating Crypto Mining and Trading
Paraguay's Senate approved a bill regulating crypto mining and trading. The primary law enforcement authority will be the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, which will penalize those individuals or legal entities carrying out mining or providing services with crypto without the corresponding authorization.
6.Vladimir Putin Bans Digital Payments in Russia
Russia President Vladimir Putin has signed a law banning digital payments across the nation, according to a policy amendment. It bans the use of digital securities and utility tokens as a means of payment for goods, services and products in Russia.

4.Andorra geeft groen licht voor Bitcoin en blockchain met Digital Assets Act
De Algemene Raad van Andorra heeft recent de Digital Assets Act goedgekeurd: een regelgevingskader voor digitale valuta's en blockchain technologie. De wet is opgesplitst in twee delen. Het eerste deel gaat over de creatie van digitaal geld, of "programmeerbaar digitaal soeverein geld", dat kan worden uitgewisseld in een gesloten systeem. Dit zou Andorra in staat stellen een eigen token te creëren.
5.Senator uit Paraguay keurt wetsvoorstel goed over het reguleren van minen en handelen in crypto
