1.Transactions on Arbitrum surpass Bitcoin — along with fees
The number of transactions on the Ethereum layer 2 scaling solution, Arbitrum, has now surpassed those on the Bitcoin blockchain. And fees have jumped accordingly. Arbitrum is an “optimistic rollup” that runs on top of the Ethereum blockchain and is designed by New York City-based startup Offchain Labs. According to information on Crypto Fees, Arbitrum received almost $800,000 in transaction fees over the past day, whereas Bitcoin had only seen around $600,000.
2.NFT marketplaces sales, users drop to lows not seen since 2021, Dune data shows
The number of daily users and sales has dipped across non-fungible token (NFT) marketplaces over the last week, according to data pulled from analytics platform Dune, reaching new lows not seen since July 2021.
3.Zimbabwe’s central bank to issue gold-backed digital currency: Report
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe is set to introduce a gold-backed digital currency to serve as legal tender in the country. The move is a government initiative to stabilize the local currency from continued depreciation against the U.S. dollar. According to a report from local media outlet The Sunday Mail, the move will allow small amounts of Zimbabwean dollars to be exchanged for the digital gold token, enabling more Zimbabweans to hedge against currency volatility.
4.Ethereum ICO participant awakes after 7.7 years of dormancy
A long-dormant Ethereum address that participated in the blockchain's initial coin offering, or ICO, awoke after 7.7 years. The wallet in question received 2,365 ether — worth approximately $4.42 million today. The Ethereum ICO participant's activity follows a pair of similar transactions from old bitcoin whale addresses. While the specific reasons for the moves remain unknown, speculation exists that some long-time crypto users are moving old funds to new wallets amid a claimed wallet-draining operation allegedly targeting old wallets — though substantiated details remain scarce.
5.Judge rules Bored Ape Yacht Club ripoff NFTs violated Yuga trademarks
A federal court in California has handed Yuga Labs, the company behind the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT collection, a legal victory in the form of a partial summary judgment in its case against Ryder Ripps and Jeremy Cahen.
